The 25-year-old gives us a unique insight into her life after leaving the SWPL and the moments that mattered on her journey to the WSL and the Scotland Women’s National Team.
“Club football is great but it doesn’t compare with playing for Scotland.”, shares the defender as she reflects on the start of her national team journey, “I had a late call up into the camp. Pedro [Martinez Losa] phoned and said he’d seen my progress and wanted me to come in. I was so buzzing to be there. We went to Hungary. I didn’t get on the pitch but then we played at Hampden on the Tuesday and I got on. It was amazing. I get goosebumps every time I think about it.”
It would be a debut to remember. Wearing the unfamiliar number eleven shirt the defender would open her SWNT account after coming on as a second half substitute against the Faroe Islands.
“I was up for a set play and found myself free in the box, I took a touch and put it in the net. That also made the moment even bigger, I’m kinda speechless with it still but that feeling doesn’t change.”
Having established herself in the squad Jenna never forgets those who helped lay the foundations for a career that has now taken her to the WSL, with the team she supported growing up, Liverpool.
“My dad was my coach when I was a kid, the time and hours the people who supported me put in, you don’t appreciate at the time because you’re young, but it is really nice for them to see how much it has paid off.
“I don’t ever remember watching any women’s football growing up, when I went to Glasgow City, the environment was the most professional we could get in Scotland and the standard that group set really helped me with my own standards.”
