TEAM NEWS
Michael Tuohy made four changes from their victory over Germany last month. AS IT HAPPENED
In true Scottish fashion, after belting out the national anthem, the girls were on the front foot straight away, giving Romania little room to breathe and scraps of possession.
With just two minutes on the clock, Scotland had already threatened the visitors’ net. Campbell dug her cross out well and it bounced all the way through to Duncan, who had evaded her marker, but the midfielder’s shot was an easy save for the keeper.
The Scots didn’t need much longer to break the deadlock, as tireless work from O’Donnell down the right-hand side afforded her time to aim her cross for Hope in the box, who tapped her effort home to open the scoring in the 14th minute.
Scotland doubled their advantage five minutes later as Kelly Fellows tried her luck from 18 yards, but her low-driven effort was spilled by the Romanian goalkeeper, striker Hope was there to poke home her second of the afternoon.
Over the course of the next 20 minutes, Scotland continued to torment Romania, with the visitors struggling to make it out of their own half.
With the close of the half seconds away, Scotland sought one final chance at goal. Miller slipped the ball beautifully through to Hope, albeit the keeper was quick off her line to close the angle down and force the striker to shoot straight at her.
HALF TIME: Scotland 2 – 0 Romania
Scotland made one change coming into the second half, with Fearne Smith replacing Mirren Duncan. The young team began the second half much like the first, with blistering attacks.
Romania made their first change in the 57th minute, with Teodora Mandi being replaced by Makaila Stanca as their search for a way back into the match continued.
Scotland nearly made it three in the 60th minute with the help of the Romanian backline, O’Donnell’s wicked cross caused trouble for Crisan, who nearly cleared the ball into her own net.
The 63rd minute hosted yet another wave of attack from Scotland, as a well-swung-in corner found the head of Campbell, who powered her effort towards the top corner, calling Nicoara into action with an important block deny the defender.
The chances continued to come thick and fast in the final quarter of the match as Scotland knocked on the door once again in the 70th minute with a well-worked free-kick which zipped across the field to O’Donnell, a cross which scuffed the top of the net.
Tuohy made two more changes in the 71st minute to add some fresh legs to the pitch, with Eilidh McCormack and Daisy Osborne replacing Freya McIndoe and Lexi Kelly Fellows.
Hope had another chance to bag herself a hat-trick in the 72nd minute as she was played through, but the keeper smothered the ball before she could get her shot away.
The inevitable third goal arrived a few minutes later courtesy of captain, Coyle Morrow, who picked the ball up just outside the 18-yard box, shifted her weight, before drilling the ball into the bottom-left corner,
Romania made a triple substitution in the 79th minute as they looked to claw their way back into the game. Pirse, Girlea and Iuga made way for Ioana-Camelia Tanase, Paraschiva Motco and Ioana-Maria Balici. In the same window, Scotland brought Olivia Petrie on in place of Lucy Jane Hope.
After a fantastic contribution on the wing, Phoebe O’Donnell was replaced by Olivia Reid in the 84th minute.
An encouraging start to this year’s European Qualifiers as Scotland ran out the victors at Broadwood, bagging themselves three points in a very dominant display.
