The Scotland Women’s National Team welcomed Street Soccer Scotland’s Women’s Team to training this week as they continue preparations for next year’s Homeless World Cup in Mexico City.
For Street Soccer Scotland, the tournament in Mexico will be a landmark occasion. It will be the first time since 2017 that Scotland has had a women’s team competing at the Homeless World Cup.
The event, which brings together teams from across the world, will take place in January 2027, with Scotland’s players preparing to showcase their talent on the international stage.
As Scotland Women’s National Team prepare for their own World Cup play-off this week, SWNT vice-captain and Street Soccer Scotland ambassador, Erin Cuthbert, was among those to welcome the team to their Oriam training base, and said it was inspiring to hear about their journey and ambitions.
“Hearing what representing Scotland means to them was amazing and to meet the team and hear about their journeys was incredible.
“We’re so fortunate to represent our country, and meeting the Street Soccer Scotland players was a great reminder of just how special it is and how much football can change lives.
“They’re going to Mexico City to represent Scotland on a world stage, and they should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved.
“It was brilliant to welcome them into our session and spend some time together. We’re all behind them when they head to Mexico in January.”
The session comes as Street Soccer Scotland continues to use football to create opportunities, build confidence and support positive change in communities across the country.
For the players heading to Mexico, the chance to meet Scotland’s senior internationalists offered an extra boost as they prepare for one of the biggest experiences of their footballing lives. Street Soccer Scotland Women's Head Coach, Morag Woods said: “Meeting the Scotland Women’s National Team was a hugely inspiring experience for our players. To be welcomed into their training environment, meet the players and hear about their experiences of representing Scotland was a really special moment for the team.
“What was particularly powerful was seeing that inspiration go both ways. Our players were able to share their own journeys, the challenges they’ve overcome and what it means to have the opportunity to represent Scotland. It was brilliant to see them encouraging the Scotland players too as they continue their own journey towards qualifying for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
“Our players left the session absolutely buzzing, not only from meeting the Scotland Women’s National Team, but from knowing that they have their support behind them as they prepare for Mexico City. To have the Scotland Women’s National Team behind them is incredibly powerful, and our players will carry that support and belief with them as they represent Scotland on the world stage in Mexico in January.”
