As it happened…

Lisa Forrest got the game underway, with Scotland starting on the front foot and applying immediate pressure. However, Germany responded quickly coming close from an early corner kick but Kenzie Weir was on hand to clear the danger.

The visitors threatened again as Dilara Acikgoz found Alara Sehitler on the edge of the box, but her effort was comfortably gathered by Erin Clachers.

A scramble in our penalty area almost gave Germany an early lead. Jella Veit got a shot away but Clachers was there to halt the danger. Sehitler tested the goal again moments later, but her effort struck the woodwork.

Possession continued to ebb and flow until Laura Berry broke through the middle and found Lisa Forrest driving forward. She played the ball across to a sprinting Eilidh Austin on the wing, but the move was cut out by Lina Attenburgh before we could threaten the opening goal.

The game continued to swing from end to end, but the breakthrough came close just before the 40th minute mark. A Jodi McLeary free kick into the area found the head of Georgia Hunter, but her effort drifted wide of the target.

With two minutes of added time in the first half, Germany looked to break the deadlock but it was McLeary who denied the visitors and preserved parity heading into the break.

Half Time: Scotland 0 - 0 Germany

The start to the second half saw no changes for Scotland and the visitors immediately tested, creating an early opportunity through Delicie Boboy, but Clachers was quick to intercept her route to goal.

Another scramble in the box saw Forrest have an effort on goal, but the attempt was blocked by Attenburgh.

The visitors continued to apply pressure, but Scotland stood firm and dealt well with the attacks. Possession soon swung in Scotland’s favour as Austin delivered a dangerous cross towards Berry in the box, but the chance was cut out before Scotland could find the opener.

Shortly afterwards, a loose pass from Germany presented Laura Berry with an opportunity, but her strike was stopped by the keeper.

Just past the hour mark, Germany broke the deadlock through Luca Birkholz and the visitors threatened again but Weir was on hand to block another opportunity. Scotland then worked the ball up on the pitch, with Forrest laying it off to Berry, whose effort drifted wide of the post.

The visitors found a second goal through Caroline Elsen, doubling their advantage late on the night as the home side continued to battle until the final whistle, but were unable to find the goal their performance deserved.
