FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier
Czechia v Scotland
Friday, 9 October
Pardubice Stadium | KO 7pm CET/6pm UK
Scotland Women’s National Team kick off their World Cup play-off against Czechia tomorrow in Pardubice. Melissa Andreatta’s side go into the knock-out stage of qualification with an unbeaten record in the group stages.
Earlier this year, Scotland topped their group and earned promotion back to ‘League A’ for the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign with victories against Israel and Luxembourg as well as two draws against Belgium.
Victory over two legs against Czechia would tee up a play-off final against Lithuania or Sweden in December.
Czechia finished second in their qualifying group, three points behind Wales who were the only team to beat them this year.
The two sides haven’t met since September 2004. Scotland won the UEFA European qualifier 3-2 in Dingwall.
Squad news
Andreatta has named a 26-player squad for this week’s double-header, returning from Injury Freya Gregory, Sam Kerr and Maria McAneny are back and available for selection along with striker Martha Thomas.
Pre-match thoughts:
Scotland Assistant Head Coach, Leanne Ross: “It's not going to be an easy game so we need to make sure that we focus on ourselves and the way that we want to play to ensure that we start strong on Friday so that we've still got something to fight for on Tuesday.
“We need to focus on games individually and I think if we do that and we keep everything internal, keep that energy and the focus to really prepare properly, we can go and deliver what we need to on the pitch.”
