Scotland Women’s National Team captain Caroline Weir has been named on the 30-player shortlist for the 2026 Women’s Ballon d'Or.

It marks back-to-back nominations for the Lyon midfielder, cementing her position among world football’s elite. Weir, who was named national team captain earlier this year, has enjoyed another sensational year at both domestic and international level.

Weir spearheaded Scotland's 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying group stage and was named top scorer of the league phase with ten goals. Weir also consistently delivered standout performances for Real Madrid in Liga F and the UEFA Women's Champions League last season prior to her move to the French champions in the summer.

Reflecting on her nomination, Weir said: “It’s always an honour to be recognised alongside such world-class players, including current and former club team-mates. I’m proud to have been able to add to last year’s nomination and represent Scotland again at this year’s event.

“I know I wouldn’t be in this position without the players and staff that I am fortunate enough to work with every day. I’m incredibly grateful and looking forward to our next challenge this Autumn.”

The winner of the 2026 Women’s Ballon d'Or will be announced at the annual gala ceremony in Paris later this autumn.
