UEFA Nations League: Group B1 Scotland v Slovenia Tuesday, 6 October 2026 - 7:45pm kick off Barclays Hampden, Glasgow Sébastien Pocognoli has called upon seven uncapped players as he selects his first squad since being unveiled as the new Scotland Men’s National Team Head Coach last month.
Naming an extended, 28-man squad, to adapt to the new UEFA Nations League format that begins with a bumper four-game window, Pocognoli has included a total of 14 players who did not feature in this summer’s FIFA World Cup 2026 squad. There is also a look to the future, with seven players in the squad who could still feature at Under-21 level.
Scotland begin the campaign by facing Slovenia in Ljubljana on Saturday, 26 September before returning to Glasgow to face Switzerland three days later. Supporters can still secure their seats to ensure Pocognoli is given a proper Barclays Hampden welcome as he leads his side out in Mount Florida for the first time against the Swiss.
The double window then concludes with an away match against North Macedonia in Skopje on Saturday, 3 October and a home game against Slovenia on Tuesday, 6 October in Glasgow.
Among the first-time call-ups is striker Robbie Ure, who scored 20 goals in 20 games for Swedish side Sirius, before sealing a £5.5m move to Sevilla in the summer.
There is a new look in defence, with former Under-21 captain Stephen Welsh earning his first senior call-up after starting the season strongly at Swansea City. Colby Donovan has impressed in the Under-21s as well and he has been named in the A-squad for the first time after securing a run of games with Celtic during the early stages of the campaign.
Another new face at the back is 25-year-old Brondby captain Luis Binks, who last pulled on the dark blue of Scotland at Under-18 level, while Stoke City’s Luke Graham – who was named on the bench against Curaçao in May after impressing as a training player – will be hoping to earn his first cap after being selected again.
Also rewarded for a strong start to the season is 25-year-old Hearts winger Josh McPake who has recorded two goals and four assists since moving to Tynecastle Park from St Johnstone in the summer, with young striker James Wilson, who has two caps to his name, also included.
Uncapped goalkeeper Jon McCracken returns to the Scotland fold as well after impressing with Bradford City and the 26-year-old already has six clean sheets since moving south from Dundee in the summer.
Also back in the Scotland squad is striker Oli McBurnie, who has 16 caps but last featured in 2021. He is recalled after scoring 18 goals as Hull City earned promotion to the English Premier League last season, including a last-gasp winner in the Play-Off Final against Middlesbrough.
There remains plenty of continuity in the refreshed squad, however, and experienced captain Andy Robertson will have an eye on some historic milestones during this camp as he hopes to add to his 97 caps.
Vice-captain John McGinn comes into camp fresh from becoming Aston Villa’s all-time top European scorer by netting his 12th goal against Club Brugge last week.
There is also a welcome return for Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour, who cruelly missed out on the World Cup after suffering an injury in the match against Curaçao at Barclays Hampden.
He is one of a group of six Seria A-based players, with Kieron Bowie, Josh Doig, Lewis Ferguson, Lennon Miller and Nathan Patterson all selected.
That number would have been higher, with Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay missing out as he recovers from a successful recent heart procedure, while Torino’s Ché Adams is injured.

While Scotland’s full allocation for the away matches has been taken up by Scotland Supporter Club (SSC) Members, tickets remain available for both home matches against Switzerland and Slovenia, as well as November’s game against North Macedonia.
