Scottish superstar DJ and producer Calvin Harris played his biggest ever Scottish homecoming this weekend as 100,000 fans turned out for two electric nights at Barclays Hampden.
Hailing from Dumfries, Harris selected the Glasgow venue for his homecoming and he took the crowd through the years, playing hits from an extraordinary career that has already spanned two decades.
The memorable shows marked the largest crowds ever seen for a DJ at the venue as Calvin Harris’ returned to the Scottish stage for the first time since closing TRNSMT festival in Glasgow Green in 2024.
With 56 billion global streams, two UK No. 1 albums, 11 UK No. 1 singles and 31 UK Top 10 hits, Harris has been one of the world’s most popular artists in the last 20 years, though he has always found time for his Scottish audience.
He played a memorable show at Hampden in 2022, while also playing to huge numbers at T in the Park and Bellahouston Park in previous homecomings, though the combined crowd from this weekend marks the largest number of fans he has played to in Scotland.
American producer and DJ MK joined Harris on stage both nights, with Jazzy - Irish singer-songwriter and DJ – also supporting on Saturday. Kasabian frontman Serge Pizzorno was a surprise addition, performing live vocals for recent hit ‘Release the Pressure’, while Clementine Douglas also gave the crowd a memorable moment when she took to the stage to sing ‘Blessings’.
There was also a homecoming for another popular Scottish DJ, Ewan McVicar, who supported on Sunday, returning to Barclays Hampden after also performing at the Scotland National Team’s World Cup send-off match against Curacao in May.
The show was also broadcast across the BBC on Saturday night, on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 1, Radio 1 Dance and BBC Sounds.
The shows round off a successful summer series at Barclays Hampden, with Take That and Metallica also playing to large numbers in June.
Scotland’s National Football Stadium has played host to some of the world’s biggest artists over the years, including Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Oasis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Robbie Williams, The Rolling Stones, and U2, with the likes of Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters and Pink performing at the stadium in recent years.
