Welsh came through the ranks at Celtic and made his first team debut at the age of 19 while on loan at Greenock Morton.
Returning to Celtic early in 2020, Welsh made his Hoops debut in February in a 4-1 victory away to Hamilton Academical.
He scored his scored Celtic goal early in 2021 against Motherwell and notably scored his side’s first goal of the new league season in a victory over Aberdeen at the start of the 2022 season.
Welsh would struggle for game time in the seasons that followed, partly due to a series of injuries, but a loan spell to Belgian side Mechelen early in 2025 got his career back on track.
He then sealed a loan move to Motherwell for the 2025/2026 season and he excelled at Fir Park, an ever-present in a Steelmen side that finished fourth.
Welsh was integral, with his quality on the ball from defence a notable asset to Jens Berthel Askou’s side.
His performances in Claret and Amber would see him seal a move to Swansea City and his impressive start to life in the Championship saw him earn a first Scotland call-up in September 2026.
He boasts extensive Scotland age group experience and, having played a number of matches as Under-21 captain, he will have his eyes on a senior debut in the near future.
