Sébastien Pocognoli makes Barclays Hampden bow as Scotland host Switzerland

Scotland are back on home soil as new Men's Head Coach Sébastien Pocognoli prepares for his first game at the National Stadium, with the Scots hosting Switzerland on Tuesday evening.

Supporters are set to turn out in their numbers to support the Belgian, although some tickets remain and they can be secured here.

Scotland took a while to get going in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Slovenia in Ljubljana, though supporters will be buoyed by the second half performance, with the Scots carving out a number of opportunities, showing signs of the attacking, high-pressing football that Pocognoli spoke of in his unveiling last month.

Switzerland will represent a stern test, however, and the World Cup quarter-finalists kicked off their own UEFA Nations League campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory in North Macedonia.

Team News

The positive news for Pocognoli is that his charges all came through Saturday's game unscathed, although the likes of Scott McTominay, Che Adams, Lawrence Shankland, Kenny McLean and Kieran Tierney remain absent.

Stephen Welsh and Robbie Ure made their Scotland debuts on Saturday and they will both be eyeing up a first Barclays Hampden appearance on Tuesday evening.

Captain Andy Robertson, meanwhile, won his 98th cap on Saturday and will go one away from a century of Scotland appearances should he feature on Tuesday night.

Previous Meetings

Scotland have faced Switzerland on 17 occasions over the years, winning eight times, drawing four and losing five.

The most recent victory came through an Ally McCoist strike in the 1996 European Championships in England.

The two sides last met in the group stages of EURO 2024 when Scott McTominay and Xherdan Shaqiri traded goals in a 1-1 draw in Cologne.

Scotland Head Coach Sebastien Pocognoli: "I think we had a good test in Slovenia, it's never easy to go there. I think Switzerland faced them also and it was also not an easy game.

"After the game, we were disappointed we didn't score but I don't think it's any concern from my side to score goals because we have good strikers.

"Switzerland is a very good country, a very good team. So it will be a tough opposition. It's also fantastic to be at home against this opponent and we respect them, but from the approach to the game, we want to show that we are at home.

"We will try to be aggressive and take control of the game if we can."

Scotland's Lewis Ferguson: He added: "My role's changed a lot, obviously. The manager spoke to me about that when I had a chat with him about being a little more experienced now within the squad and starting to become a leader within the group because it's changed so much since the first camp when I came.

"I know how it feels to be one of the young ones coming in. I know what challenges that could bring. I'm there for them if there's anything they need help with."
