Managers and coaching staff from across the William Hill Premiership came together at Barclays Hampden this week to meet with members of the Scottish FA Referee Operations department and some of Scotland’s leading match officials.
The latest in a series of regular meetings, the forum provided an opportunity for managers, coaching staff and match officials to share perspectives, raise questions and discuss a range of topics relating to the opening weeks of the season. Open and honest dialogue was encouraged throughout, allowing both sides to gain a greater understanding of the challenges faced on matchdays from both perspectives.
As part of the ongoing relationship between Referee Operations and clubs, the meeting was designed to strengthen communication and collaboration between match officials and those working in technical roles at clubs.
Discussions also focused on refereeing directives, the application of the Laws of the Game and the VAR processes involved during matches. At the same time, match officials were able to benefit from the footballing insight and experiences of managers and coaching staff.
Meetings will continue throughout the Premiership season, as a positive step in building relationships across the professional game.
Head of refereeing, William Collum explained "These sessions are invaluable to ensure strong relationships with the Scottish Premiership clubs. Alongside our sessions with the Scottish Premiership Captains, it allows us to inform and reflect on decisions with those within the game."
