Josh Doig began his career in the youth system at Hearts, but after he was released in 2019, he moved across the city to join the Hibernian academy.
Originally a centre back, he joined Queen's Park on loan in early 2020 and he would go on to play largely at left back during his time with the Spiders.
Upon his return to Easter Road, Doig made his first appearance against Kilmarnock early in the 2020/2021 season and he became a regular for the Hibees during that covid-disrupted campaign.
After an impressive season, and an appearance in the 2021 Scottish Cup Final, Doig was awarded the SFWA Young Player of the Year award.
He remained at Easter Road for another season before joining Hellas Verona in a £3m move and he flourished in his first season in Italy, playing the majority of games and scoring a couple of goals.
A move to Sassuolo followed in the 2023/2024 season, and Doig remained at the club following relegation, helping Sassuolo to the Serie B title in the following season.
He has remained at the club since and was joined by Under-21 teammate Kieron Bowie during the summer of 2026.
At international level, Doig first represented Scotland with the Under-18s but it was at Under-21 level that he came a pivotal figure, captaining the side who narrowly missed out on qualification for the 2025 Under-21 European Championships.
He has had to remain patient at senior level, having been a semi-regular in squads since a first call-up in September 2022, and he eventually made his debut for Scotland in June 2025 in a friendly against Liechtenstein.
