A Celtic youth product, Colby Donovan got his first taste of men's football with the Celtic B Team in the Lowland League, in both the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 before making his first team bow away to Livingston early in the 2025/2026 season at the age of just 18.
He would go on to make just shy of 30 appearances that season, alternating with fellow Scotland international Anthony Ralston as Celtic coped without Alistair Johnston.
After Johnston also suffered an injury early in the 2026/2027 season, Donovan was given his first extended run in the team, making the right back berth his own.
A regular at Scotland Under-19 level - playing both centre back and right back - Donovan became a vital figure for the Scotland Under-21 side during their 2027 Under-21 European Championship qualifying campaign before receiving his first senior call-up by new Head Coach Sebastien Pocognoli in September 2026.
