Bulgaria 0 Scotland 2 (31, Stewart, 90+1, Wales) A young Scotland side lined up against hosts Bulgaria in Pazardzhik at the Georgi Benkovski stadium. Fresh from their thumping 5-2 win over Azerbaijan at the BBSP Rugby Park, Tony Docherty freshened things up for the final group B game. Rory Mahady took over between the sticks, Sam Cleall-Harding and Mitchel Frame re-joined the backline and Andrew Tod joining the attack. With the Young Scots pressing high from the off, Stewart, Tod and Wilson harried and unsettled the Bulgarian back-line, with Fletcher driving forward through the middle of the park. Asserting their control, the hosts struggled to hold on to possession or build within the Scottish half. The Scots linked together some neat passages of play, with Fletcher and Carr knocking the ball around in the midfield and linking the play well. The Young Scots grabbed the lead just after the half-hour mark as Andrew Tod robbed the ball in the final third, playing in Barney Stewart who thundered one low past Andreev in the Bulgarian goal to make it three in two games for the West Brom man, with this one the pick of the bunch. Moments later, the Bulgarians looked to level the tie with Martin Georgiev's left-foot strike from inside the 18 yard box, but Rory Mahady was equal to it, tipping it over the bar well. As the Bulgarians battled to get back in to the game prior to the half-time break, the Scots were putting in the hard yards, narrowing the angles and cutting down the space in the middle of the park, and looking to break when they snatched the ball back, taking a well deserved 1-0 lead in to the half-time break. The second-half started in similar fashion, with the Scots continuing to work hard all over the park and bursting through the lines with the ball. The Scots came close to doubling the lead just before the hour mark as Dylan Lobban was denied not once, but twice from a deflected strike and follow up as Andreev batted the ball away as the hosted struggled to clear their lines. The Bulgarians had the best chance of the second-half with around 15 minutes to go as Stoyanchov found Gigov in the middle of the 18-yard box, but a combination of Mahady in the goal and the covering Dylan Lobban clearing it off the line kept the Scots on top. The Bulgarians were reduced to ten with ten minutes remaining as Bulgarian full-back Simeon Shishkov flew in with a high challenge on Scotland's Dylan Lobban, with a stramash ensuring, as both benches got involved. The Scots nearly doubled the lead with a few minutes left as Stewart burst on to the ball, taking advantage of the Bulgarian keeper stranded, he knocked it back to Wales on the edge of the 18 yard box, but he could only nudge the ball agonisingly wide.
Minutes later, the Scots did double the lead in injury time as Barney Stewart stole the ball from the Bulgarian defence, picking up a loose pass and cutting it back to Bobby Wales who made no mistake this time, and knocked the ball in to an empty net.
